Hoffenheim appoint youngest Bundesliga coach in history Julian Nagelsmann
The 28-year-old succeeds Huub Steven, 62, who announced his resignation and retirement from football due to a heart condition on Wednesday.
Nagelsmann was briefly an assistant coach during the 2012-13 campaign, and he was expected to spend the resof the season with the Under-19s as he continues studying for his senior coaching licence. At 28 years of age, he becomes the youngest Bundesliga manager ever.
Nagelsmann has broken the record held by Klaus-Dieter Ochs, who at 30 years at 244 days took over at Hamburg in 1970, leading them to 5th, 10th and 14th before his departure.
The Dutch coach has surprisingly taken this decision just three days before his side’s Bundesliga clash against Werder Bremen, reports Xinhua.
Nine of the 32 managers who qualified for the 2015/16 Champions League group stages made less than 40 top flight appearances on the pitch. “I’m very happy for him and I believe in him”.
Huub Stevens has stepped down as coach of Bundesliga strugglers Hoffenheim. “Together with Julian we already went through all the risks involved last autumn and we’ve now chose to start our joint course earlier”. “I am excited to work with the team and, through my nature, to be able to once again create a new attraction”.
“Julian… can shoulder this responsibility (and) he will provide new inspiration to the team”, Hoffenheim sports director Alexander Rosen said in a statement.
