Flint city employees could face manslaughter charges for poisoned water
Flo Rida chose to get involved with this public health crisis when he saw that Flint residents were still being denied access to clean water for drinking, bathing, and cooking. Will he be accountable? “I am proud of this budget because we addressed the challenges we have in Flint and Detroit while remaining committed to our core budget principles and managing the taxpayer dollar wisely”, Roberts said in a statement.
“In order for Flint residents to once again have confidence and trust in the water coming from their faucets, all lead pipes in the city of Flint need to be replaced”, she said.
Henry says he got no cooperation from the local or state health departments or the DEQ. The plan, co-sponsored by Congressman Fred Upton, requires drinking water systems to notify customers when ten percent of them have lead levels above the “lead action level”.
Democrats say Snyder’s plan is short of what is needed to fully reimburse the water portion of people’s water/sewer bills, and city officials want more to replace old pipes.
The School District of Beloit is asking the community to take part in a water collection drive for residents in Flint, Michigan.
Officials announced Wednesday that representatives of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and licensed plumbers will visit about 400 homes citywide to teach homeowners how to accurately test water so they can submit regular samples for analysis.
The first step, said Governor Snyder in an interview with MSNBC, is to start testing the water in 400 sites to locate the lead piping.
Officials are finally taking action, but Flint water has been unsafe to drink since April 2014 when an emergency manager appointed by Snyder switched the city from Detroit’s system to the corrosive Flint River, as a cost-cutting measure. In his presentation the Governor asked lawmakers to approve $195.4 million in one-time funding for Flint. Former Flint Mayor Dayne Walling also has been invited, as well as Miguel Del Toral, an EPA water expert who wrote a June 2015 memo about lead problems in Flint that was not made public for months.
The governor and legislators previously directed more than $37 million toward the crisis, including funds for bottled water, filters, testing, health care and other services. On Wednesday, Snyder declined to testify before a Congressional hearing on the crisis.
The governor said he’s convening a commission first called for in his State of the State address to come up with infrastructure recommendations.
“I’d say he’s wrong based on what he said and based on what I have in my hand”. In fact, at the conference it was revealed that one school, Freeman Elementary, tested six times the federal limit.
“As I look at this issue, I don’t just see a $500 million investment, I don’t see a $200 million investment, I see the potential for it to stop the pipeline to prison”, said Rep. Harvey Santana.
