Storm predicted to strike during Monday am commute
Accumulation of less than one inch is possible by Tuesday’s morning rush, the weather service says, though roads could be slick thanks to temperatures below freezing.
Generally, 1-4 inches will fall across most of CT, with lesser amounts on the western side of the state.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Middlesex, Windham, New London counties, while a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Fairfield, Hartford, New Haven, and Tolland counties. The heaviest snow is expected Tuesday night.
The air will be come colder and colder with each disturbance moving through, with highs down to the low 30s Tuesday, then low 20s Wednesday!
Strong winds and brief intense snow showers could create snow squalls that reduce visibility for Monday morning’s commute, according to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill.
Besides snow, Wednesday’s forecast calls for a cloudy day with light wind and a high near 38 degrees for the Greater Hartford area, the service said.
Many folks were surprised this morning by the sudden “snow attack”, despite a rain/snow mix in the forecast for many days in advance. Lows around 17 to 20 degrees. Wind chills will run well below zero with the gusty winds projected.
Winds: West at 15-21 miles per hour, increasing to 20-25 miles per hour in the evening and overnight. Lower elevations are predicted to accumulate approximately 2-4 inches of snowfall. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 15.
Tuesday: A chance of light snow, mainly before 7am. Those could lead to some minor accumulations, but less than an additional inch from Tuesday’s snow.
