Extreme cold warning issued for Caledon and much of southern Ontario
It’s an excuse to stay in and cuddle up with someone you love this Valentine’s Day weekend – Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for much of Quebec. Wind chill conditions will improve only marginally on Saturday afternoon, then fall below minus 30 again on Saturday night.
An alert is issued when temperatures are set to reach -15 C or colder according to Environment Canada’s forecast.
As a result all of northern Ontario will experience extreme cold today, tonight and into Saturday morning.
People are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing for the weather. The agency also issued warnings for extreme cold and winter storms in areas of Newfoundland. Some fabrics are created to keep sweat off your body, which can help keep you dry.
– Dress in layers with a wind resistant outer layer. Be sure to cover your nose to protect it.
Those most at risk of cold-related illness are people who work outdoors, people with a pre-existing heart condition or respiratory illness, those taking certain medications, infants and young children, and those who are homeless.
Also, when you’re running the heat, the headlights and your windshield wipers at once, it’s important that your charging system is working properly.
It is expected to be even colder on Saturday with potentially record-breaking lows for a February 13. Depending on the wind chill, exposed skin can freeze in minutes.
