Twitter to Change Homepage to Customize Tweet Displays to Individuals
The number of active Twitter users failed to rise in the last three months of 2015, the social network has reported, as it continues to struggle.
The new timeline has just started rolling out and if you want to test it just follow the steps below for the platform you’re using Twitter on.
Twitter is tweaking the way that tweets appear in its users’ timelines in its latest attempt to broaden the appeal of its messaging service. The new feature is part of a major overhaul for the social media site that will also see the introduction of prioritised tweets ahead of the current reverse chronological order. To try it today, go into your settings and choose “Show me the best Tweets first” within the timeline section.
The trouble at Twitter is taking a serious toll on the value of the company’s stock price, which hit an all-time low Thursday following Wednesday’s news that user growth had stalled. At least for now. The feature is now available to general users on an opt-in basis. Then the rest of the Tweets will be displayed right underneath, also in reverse chronological order, as always. When you get it, you’ll receive a notification, and the new timeline will automatically be turned on.
The move to have tweets paid for by advertisers surface higher in individuals’ timelines is expected to make it more likely users will respond to ads.
Twitter is making changes in attempts to bring in new users, such as surfacing interesting tweets to the top of timelines. Apart from the declining user base, another problem facing the company is the exodus of top talent.
Gartner Inc. Analyst Jennifer Polk said that the interaction in Twitter is very shallow and superficial, that most of its users do not feel personally connected in contrast to what Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat offer.
Dorsey has spent much of his time since taking the helm of the company last October promising to fix what he calls the “broken windows”. Twitter hasn’t announced as to how it will pick its users for testing. “By becoming more Twitter-y”, Dorsey wrote.
