Ellison defends Sanders after Lewis’ remark
In completely unrelated news, shortly after Clinton lost New Hampshire by a massive margin this week and shortly before Priorities USA announced it would come to her aid in the primary, Hillary’s campaign circulated a detailed memo outlining her strategy moving forward.
As for Sanders, CNN reported he would probably remark that he voted against authorizing the Iraq War in 2002 when he responds Clinton’s arguments on foreign policy. Many Democrats are longing for a candidate who can inspire and engage voters, similar to President Barack Obama.
Meanwhile, what has worked for Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire and Iowa may not work for SC or Nevada as every state is different and voters are focused on different issues.
His campaign dismissed Clinton’s contention that Sanders had presented himself as potentially better than Obama on race relations.
The candidates are sending that message to African-American voters who make up a large percentage of the SC electorate.
“We don’t represent Wall Street, we don’t represent the billionaire class, so it ends up I’m the only candidate up here of the many candidates who has no Super PAC”, Sanders said. Clinton presented herself as a continued voice for the underrepresented with her proposals to “rebuild the ladders of opportunity” and achieve comprehensive immigration reform.
“In her book and in this last debate, she talked about getting the approval or the support or the mentoring of Kissinger”, Sanders said. I said that when I was leading and was at the center of pivotal actions within the Civil Rights Movement, I did not meet Sen. That would be the worst of respectability politics, if that’s what Sanders meant. Lewis didn’t mention Sanders during the College Park event, but urged the crowd to cast their ballot for the former US secretary of state. “People aren’t dumb”, Sanders said. “But those kinds of personal assessments and charges are ones that I find particularly troubling”, Clinton said in her response. But one of the most important was black voters.
Clinton and Sanders were ending the day at the Minnesota DFL’s annual Humphrey-Mondale Dinner, putting them before party activists less than three weeks before the state’s March 1 presidential caucus. They’re not going to overturn a clear victory for sanders in the convention. And despite taking in heaps of money in campaign donations from both the insurance and pharmecutical industries, she added “I took on the drug companies and I took on the insurance companies to try to get us universal health care coverage”.
Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright apologized on Friday for comments that sparked controversy last week while she campaigned for Hillary Clinton, saying it was the wrong time to use her trademark phrase that, “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help each other”.
CLINTON: You know, I have said many times, you know, I am not asking people to support me because I’m a woman.
And until late in the debate it appeared as if her strategy was not to bash Sanders, but in patient and measured and practical tones, critique his plans as unrealistic and one-dimensional. “What this campaign is about is creating a process for a political revolution in which millions of Americans, working people who have given up on the political process …”
