Polar Plunge in Union City will raise money for Special Olympics
All the proceeds raised goes towards training and holding competitions for Arkansas Special Olympic athletes.
Johnson says raising funds for the Special Olympics is important to him, so are his fellow Super Plungers who have formed a unique bond over the years.
Despite single digit temperatures on Saturday, 913 plungers turned out for the 15th Annual Polar Plunge at the Foster Arend Park in Rochester.
“We have a very strong connection with them”, Vranesevic said of the relationship between Special Olympics Ontario and law enforcement agencies. He joined Dodge County Sheriff, Scott Rose for his first time plunging for the special Olympics cause. People, please let’s all do what we can to see that Lee meets his goal and is forced to take the plunge.
The event has raised more than $1.7 million over the span of 14 years.
The registration fee is $50 to take the plunge.
Event officials said it is their biggest event yet. During this weekends Rochester Polar Plunge event he will make his 100th jump. He said local police also collect donations at Ottawa 67’s games and through their Cops and Cowboys events at Lone Star Texas Grill.
“We did that with the intention of encouraging participants to try and get sponsorship”, McGetrick said.
