Arturo Vidal reveals why he joined Bayern Munich from Juventus
Bayern Munich have completed the signing of Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal from Juventus, for a reported fee of £28m.
The German club was in need of a heavyweight midfielder following Bastian Schweinsteiger departure to Premier League club Manchester United and Vidal seems to be the flawless fit.
Upon arrival, Vidal told the club’s website: “I’m very happy”.
Vidal came close to completing a treble with Juve last term, as they won Serie A and the Coppa Italia before being beaten by Barcelona in the Champions League final.
“He is a guy who likes to win and has an excellent mentality”, said Bayern’s sporting director Matthias Sammer, who added that Vidal has the option of an extra year once his contract expires in 2019.
He reached a deal with prosecutors to avoid trial after crashing his Ferrari and he apologised for insulting a police officer, as well as agreeing to pay compensation to a driver involved in the crash. “It is a dream coming to fruition for me”.
When asked about why he chose Bayern, he said: “I wanted to make a big step in my career”.
Vidal moved to Juventus in 2011 and won four consecutive Serie A titles and was the club’s player of the season in 2012-13.
‘I’m thrilled about playing in the Bundesliga again and obviously hope to win it this time.
The last thing we need is for you to remind what we no longer have.
Thiago Alcantara, Javi Martinez, Xabi Alonso, Sebastian Rode and Mario Gotze will all be expecting to feature for Bayern in midfield this season, while youngster Pierre Højbjerg will be hoping for a few game time after impressing on loan at Augsburg last season.
“With Bayer Leverkusen I did not fully succeed, so at Bayern I have a good chance of doing so”.
