Governor Snyder visits Flint food bank
Students at the school were being tested for lead after the metal was found in the city’s drinking water.
The outbreak began in 2014 after Flint switched its drinking water source to the Flint River after using Detroit’s water system for decades.
The governor and legislators previously directed more than $37 million toward the crisis, including funds for bottled water, filters, testing, health care and other services.
“We need to do something, and we need to do something quickly”, Becerra told reporters, noting reluctance on the behalf of Republicans to embrace a $765 million aid package introduced by Rep. Dan Kildee (D-Mich.) for his Flint constituents.
He insisted that authorities told citizens not to drink water from the tap since October 2015. “And it would be safer, if your only other choice is feeding them straight Flint water”.

An emotional Tawaab and Mayor Weaver sat in front of 35 House Democrats for two-and-a-half hours, discussing the needs of Flint and how Congress can help a city at its knees climb to its feet. Some children’s blood has tested positive for lead, a potent neurotoxin linked to learning disabilities, lower IQ and behavioral problems.
Kildee is sponsoring the bill, which would help Flint fix and replace lead-contaminated pipes and provide a health and educational support for children poisoned by lead-contaminated water.
Democratic lawmakers say the White House has signaled support for an emergency bill that would spend $765 million to help solve a water crisis in Flint. Flood was brought in to lead the investigation last month because the Department of the Attorney General is defending Gov. Rick Snyder (R) and various state departments against lawsuits brought by Flint residents.
Kildee said he’s pushing for his $765 million package to be included in any supplemental but signaled that he’s open to revisions. Michael Moore is still out there calling for Governor Snyder’s head on a plate and Hillary Clinton has certainly implied as much without stating it directly. Devoting the district’s operating millage to retire its $3.5 billion in debt and long-term liabilities would create a deficit in the new district; hence the tobacco settlement cash – meaning additional DPS funds won’t come at the expense of other districts.
“It does remind me, we are the expendables”, Westin says.
Michigan Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof said “there’s a good argument to be made” for the state to foot the bill, because the government failed the city’s water customers “at every level”, according to AP. Without them, the river’s highly corrosive water scraped lead from pipes and fixtures for more than a year. In the meantime, I’m spending my time seeing how we help the residents of Flint, and that goes to the point here of let’s work on food resources and nutrition resources.
“What she did share with me was interesting – that there have been numerous complaints about the Flint water, that the governor’s office had been involved, and that any announcement by public health about the quality of the water would certainly inflame the situation”, Bohm wrote.
