Cam Newton defends decision to walk out of press conference
– Carolina quarterback Cam Newton defended his Super Bowl postgame press conference Tuesday, saying he knows he’s a sore loser.
The star quarterback walked out of his media duties in the aftermath of Sunday’s defeat at Levi’s Stadium, prompting criticism.
Manning took a pay cut this season, but earned it back with $2 million bonuses for winning the AFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl.
Newton unapologetically explained away his conduct as he cleared out his locker at the Panthers training facility in Charlotte on Tuesday. I hope he grows from this, but the one thing about sports, you don’t get to just be happy when the good things happen.
“You’ve just got to be more professional than that, especially when you’re doing well, (you) run to the press and dab and do all that other stuff”. “I’ve obviously had a lot of time to think about it. I’ve seen so much blown out of proportion”. “We know who Cam is, we understand who the young man is and who he wants to be for us”.
Denver Broncos general manager John Elway says Peyton Manning will be given as much time as he wants to decide whether he wants to continue playing in the NFL. I’m human. I never once said that I was flawless. “I never proclaimed that I was ideal, but at the end of the day, people pick and do things of that sort”, Newton added.
“I’ve seen numerous quarterbacks throw interceptions, and their effort afterwards, they don’t go”. I didn’t dive down.
With the Panthers still in the game late in the fourth quarter, Newton fumbled thanks to terrorizing outside linebacker Von Miller.
The Carolina Panthers packed up their locker room Tuesday after a disappointing end to the franchise’s best season.
Newton said if he caused offense, “That’s cool”. “It’s easy for a person to nitpick and say, ‘He gave up.’ That” fine. Yet, in this, Cam also said that he doesn’t take losses well – especially when there’s so much on the line and so much invested.
A Broncos player could be heard boasting about his team’s win as Newton was answering questions from reporters.
