Chevrolet Colorado Duramax Diesel Belts Out 369 lb-ft of Torque
Both the Colorado and Canyon diesels’ maximum trailering capacity rises to 7,700 pounds (3,492 kg) on 2WD model or 7,600 pounds (3,447 kg) for 4WD, up from 7,000 (3,175 kg) of the 2WD/4WD 3.6L V6 model – all fitted with the Z82 trailering package that comes as standard on the Duramax model.
When Chevy introduced the new Colorado last year, it was a major leap forward for the moribund mid-size truck segment, but the Bowtie brand didn’t put all of its cards on the table.
Among some of the more interesting pieces of technology inside the new 24-valve iron-block engine with an aluminum cylinder head is a forged-steel crankshaft, piston-cooling oil jets, ceramic glow plugs, a strengthened aluminum upper oil pan and B20 bio-diesel fuel capability.
Chevrolet announced Tuesday that the 2016 Colorado Duramax Diesel will arrive at dealerships this fall.
GM does claim that this diesel is its cleanest ever, though, thanks in part to a cooled exhaust-gas recirculation system, which mixes some exhaust gas back into the air intake, a process that GM says helps lower combustion temperatures. “Along with greater capability and efficiency, it expands the Colorado lineup to give customers more choices and the capability of exploring more possibilities on and off the road”. The max-towing engine option will cost a $3,730 premium over the comparably equipped 3.6-liter V-6 gas engine.
Chevrolet The 2.8-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel makes 181-horsepower and a whopping 369 lb.-ft. of torque. “It was also designed specifically for trucks and has undergone numerous same validation tests as the 6.6L Duramax, contributing to legendary Duramax durability and reliability”.
The CPVA is an absorbing damper with a set of secondary spring masses, that – when energized – cancels out the engine’s torsional vibrations so the driver and passengers can’t feel them.
The latter also get an exclusive, integrated trailer brake controller as standard as well as a new electronically controlled two-speed transfer case in 4WD trim.
The Colorado’s exhaust brake can work with either the cruise control or the transmission to rein in speed. It is a smart system that varies the amount of brakes needed for the vehicle, load and grade.
