Duggan to open Clinton’s first Mich. campaign office
President Bill Clinton fired some attacks against his wife political rival Sen. The former NY senator and secretary of state started this election season with a huge advantage over Bernie Sanders in the Granite State, and then watched for months as Sanders’ popularity with New Hampshire’s Democratic voters grew alongside his name recognition.
Wayne Lesperance, director of the New England College Polling Institute, said the tactic had worked when Clinton fought back at an 11-hour grilling on Capitol Hill about the 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya, making Republicans look like “bullies”.
Jeff Weaver, Sanders’s campaign manager, said in a statement Monday that it was “very disturbing that as the Clinton campaign struggles through Iowa and New Hampshire they have become increasingly negative and dishonest”. Mr. Clinton, growing more demonstrative, added that the liberal journalist Joan Walsh had faced what he called “unbelievable personal attacks” for writing positively about Mrs. Clinton. The state was the launchpad for Hillary Clinton’s comeback in 2008, and after his performance in the 1992 primary here, Bill Clinton deemed himself the “comeback kid”.
Devine also addressed Clinton’s comments about the “Bernie Bros”.
“Nor do I think of the governor or Vermont, the only governor in the country who tried to get single-payer health care, who had to give it up because it would have doubled the budget of the state and it wouldn’t pass, that’s hardly an establishment credential”, Bill Clinton said.
Are young women supporting Bernie Sanders just to meet young guys? “I’d be surprised if she isn’t negative….”
Bill Clinton seemed to hedge his criticism at times, saying “I gotta be careful of what I say”, but in his speech here, he seemed to do exactly the opposite. And I would point you to something that Gloria Steinem said, which she also – the first thing that she said was talking about women in power, and how men tend to get more power as they get older and women don’t always.
In South Carolina, which holds its primary on February 27, Clinton is far ahead of Sanders there in both polls (by 29.5 points in the RealClearPolitics average) and prediction markets (83% to 17%, according to PredictWise). “Sanders has said he denounces it. So, you know, we encourage people to follow his lead and talk about the issues, talk about the positive side”.
“My friend said, ‘Boy that would really work for any woman running, ‘” Clinton retorted sarcastically.
That’s right: the former president-who has been the subject of numerous sexual harassment allegations over the years-now says the real sexists are the people criticizing his wife’s policies.
