Winter storm warning issued for eastern Tennessee
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Northern Virginia from 6 p.m.to midnight Friday.
Up to three inches of snow is expected Friday morning and afternoon, followed by the lowest temperatures we’ve seen so far this winter, the National Weather Service said.
First, on this Sunday, it will be a cold one. That area of snow then spreads into the rest of the Ohio Valley, Appalachians, Virginia and the Piedmont of North Carolina by Sunday night.
Friday: Clouds will increase through the morning.
We’re tracking an area of low pressure that will slide toward the area from the west late tonight into Monday. The possibility of icing in the above-mentioned areas could at least cause slick travel conditions and, if subfreezing surface temperatures persist longer, could lead to some sporadic downed tree limbs and power outages. The worst of the weather is expected overnight and into Sunday morning. “Most areas will see 1-3” and that will occur during Friday’s snow. Winter Storm Warnings are posted for the same areas that just received over a foot of snow!
We may also see spotty ice north of Crossville, but not widespread.
MONDAY NIGHT: Snow showers to a wintry mix will be possible, with overnight low temperatures around 28 degrees. After that, the Peninsula will likely get rain, Alexander said.
Monday’s outlook calls for an uptick in temperatures, with a high near 73, and another day of sunshine. Highs will be back in the upper teens. A few isolated thunderstorms are possible as well. This will be when the Winter Weather Advisory ends, as the cold front moves through. Bitterly Cold. Not as windy. It will be chilly again and become breezy with highs in the mid-20s. Breezy, with a south southeast wind 15 to 25 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 35 miles per hour.
Wednesday’s low in Madison was 3 at 8:07 a.m., 11 degrees below the normal low and 28 degrees above the record low of 25 below for February 10, set in 1899.
