Shooting leaves Bethune-Cookman student dead, two other students injured
Police said 23-year-old Lamont Postell got a gun and started shooting at the victims. Johnson was a linebacker for the Bethune Cookman University football team.
One victim, identified by police as 23-year-old Donkevious Johnson, suffered a gunshot wound and died after being transported to a nearby hospital.
Police in Daytona Beach, Fla., are searching for a suspect in the fatal shooting of a Bethune-Cookman University football player early Saturday morning, WKMG-TV reported.
Police said Cunningham is in critical condition after being shot in the head, and Williams is in stable condition after being shot in the back.
Two other people were shot, 21 year-old Tre Williams and Justine Cunningham.
The school said Johnson was a sophomore majoring in psychology.
Police said they have issued a warrant for Postell on charges of first degree murder and attempted murder. Two other Bethune-Cookman students were wounded in the shooting and are now hospitalized.
Chief Mike Chitwood of the Daytona Beach Police Department confirmed more than 200 students were present at the party. In September, a man shot and killed two of the university’s students in a Daytona Beach apartment, and injured another.
BCU officials told WESH 2 News that counselors will be available for students who are grieving.
