Eddy Cue: Apple Music has 11 million paid subscribers
If there was one negative aspect about the new Apple TV that users discovered at launch, it was limitation on performing searches and entering text with the set-top box’s included remote. 782Million users are now on the iCloud network.
The new number was revealed in an interview on John Gruber’s “The Talk Show,” podcast which attracts a large audience among Apple developers. With Apple Music, Apple decided on a design that would put music front and center while also integrating cloud music with hard copies purchased through iTunes. Other stats were revealed by the two executives.
According to Apple execs Eddie Cue and Craig Federighi, the upcoming app will also offer gesture controls similar to the way the new remote’s touchpad works. “We have a billion active devices now…”, said Federighi during the interview. These are so important to people and we see it every time we change them at all. And that’s why they think Apple’s software quality is bad.
It’s not clear how much of the company’s $18.4 billion of profit came from Apple Music, if any, but 11 million subscribers paying a $9.99/£9.99 monthly fee points to seems like the initial gamble paid off. Apple’s VPs also revealed that iMessage sees around 200,000 messages being sent per second, which is a pretty big number.
He admitted that appealing to all their users was a risky and tricky act that needed a lot of balancing to be done till they could arrive at a consensus on the feature to be updated.
Apple Music provides music recommendations based on the user’s taste and is integrated with Siri voice commands.
