Police question man in shooting of officer
A police officer in Clarksdale, Mississippi was shot in the head while responding to an armed robbery Saturday evening.
The assailants shot the officer and left him on the streets.
He said video from a nearby law office shows Crouch getting out of his auto, apparently to question the man.
The officer was responding to suspicious activity at a convenience store in Clarksdale when the men shot him, CNN affiliate WMC reported.
The shooting happened on the 5600 block of Fairfields Avenue around 6 a.m. Saturday morning. That officer, Cpl. Derrick Couch, was airlifted to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis and is listed in guarded condition.
City leaders said investigators were able to track the suspects’ every move, largely because of security cameras that police said caught the shooting.
‘I’m not sure if Officer Crouch saw him run or not, ‘ Luckett said.
The first suspect, a 19-year-old who is believed to have shot Couch, was turned in and brought to the station by his father. “I can’t remember an officer in Clarksdale shot by a suspect”.
Officers with a search warrant found “telling evidence” at the family’s home earlier Sunday, Luckett said.
The men were both wearing masks and one had a pistol.
Sources said officers were investigating an armed robbery at the Corner Grocery at the intersection of Second Street and Sunflower in Clarksdale.
