Newton talks about being a ‘sore loser’
Newton says he has no regrets about how he reacted Sunday after the Super Bowl loss to Denver, walking out during media availability.
Newton is seen in the video expressing disapproval at Harris’ comments, saying “I’m outta here” before leaving his podium. “I’d much rather have a guy who hates to lose then a guy who accepts it. A guy who accepts it you might as well push him out of your locker room because you don’t want him around”. I understand that. I am my own person.
Newton said his emotions were raw after the game and he simply didn’t want to talk to the media.
“I didn’t get the fumble, but we can play tit for tat”, Newton said. “It happened. It happened”. At the end of the day, when you invest so much time and sacrifice so much… and things don’t go as planned…
Newton says he’s human and has never claimed to be ideal. I have never proclaimed that I was ideal.
The quarterback went on to say, “Who are you to say that your way is right?”
“I’ve been on record saying I’m a sore loser, who likes to lose?”
Mark Bedenbender, who had a prime spot along the metal barrier, said the event is not only a celebration but likely a farewell to Manning, too. I know what I’m capable of and I know where I am going. It’s not a popularity contest.
They said they know how badly he wanted to win and how hard he takes losing games.
Okay, we can buy that – especially from a quarterback on a team that lost six of 10 games this season after leading or being tied with less than two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
Newton responded to that on Tuesday, admitting he didn’t want to risk injury on the play. “He really does. And a lot of great ones have that”, Rivera said.
Newton, who was selected as the league MVP on Saturday, gave some hope to Panthers fans.
“We will be back”. “I mean that. We will be back”. The truth of the matter is we’ve got two losses. I fumbled. That’s fine. “So why should we be all smiles when the game is over?” People knew we were going to win, but they didn’t know how fast we would win. “I can tell you that”. If you want me to be that type of person, I’m not that.
