MWC 2016: LG announces X Cam, X Screen smartphones

The first two models in the series, the X cam and the X screen, will debut at MWC in Barcelona on 22 February.

Its X cam has dual cameras at the back, one 13 megapixel and another 5 megapixel, that the South Korean tech giant said was a “premium smarpthone feature” that will offer a price-competitive experience for users.

The LG X screen rather excitingly features not only a 4.93-inch 1080p main display but also a 1.76-inch LCD at 520 x 80 resolution screen as an Always-on display.

Elsewhere, there’s a quad-core 1.2Ghz processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and a 2,300mAh battery, alongside Android 6.0 Marshmallow, a 13MP rear camera and 8MP front camera, meaning its certainly no slouch either. With support for LTE, the device comes dipped in Titan silver, white, gold and Pink gold. This new X series of smartphones will be rolled out in key markets including Asia, Europe and Latin America starting March 2016.

LG today teased a new X series of phones to go along with its G, V, and K series. It features 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. It is, however, a lot more focused on that than even the LG K10. Why? The handset also features LG’s 3D Bending Glass for a curved front panel finish.

The X-Cam’s forte, for instance, is its camera. What’s more, the X screen offers a stylish, sleek look with its crystal-clear glass fiber exterior and clean lines, as stated by LG. The X cam puts dual cameras (13MP/5MP) on the rear; if it works anything like other dual-camera systems, it could lead to better zoom, or superior low-light capability. Like the V10, the secondary display shows notifications, the date, time, and other quick-glance details such as remaining battery life, plus there are music and call-answering controls.

Although LG’s mobile payment method will undeniably compete with Samsung’s own service, it’s becoming more obvious that LG isn’t necessarily doing things the Samsung way. A front-facing 8MP camera takes selfies and handles video chats. The LG X screen will be available in Black, White, and Pink Gold colors.
