Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda Raps His Grammys 2016 Acceptance Speech
The national tour of the Grammy-nominated musical (we’ll find out Monday night if it wins) will be a part of the Tempe theater’s 2017-2018 season, which was announced Sunday morning.
The cast of the hip-hop musical composed by and starring Lin-Manuel Miranda, performed the opening number Alexander Hamilton for the Grammys from New York’s Richard Rodgers Theatre.
Later, the cast was presented the award by Stephen Colbert, who was on hand in NY.
“This is like nothing you have ever experienced”, he said.
Screams were so loud when star/writer Lin-Manuel Miranda appeared that his first lines were barely audible.
In addition to a previously-announced run in Chicago on September 27 of this year, Hamilton will head straight to San Francisco in March 2017, following up with shows in Los Angeles from August 11 to December 30.
The performance towered high against even pop’s biggest stars – and Twitter took note. He wasn’t just happy about bringing musical theater to a wider audience, but exposing his fans to new music as well.
The production joined a long list of show-stopping performers, including Taylor Swift, Ellie Goulding, Demi Lovato and The Weeknd.
Watch Miranda and the cast accept their award below. However, it was a musical that stole the show and social media during the awards show.
