The attack on Buratai was the fourth since February 2014, PRNigeria, which distributes media releases for the Nigerian military, reported Tuesday.
– Witnesses say Boko Haram extremists shot and killed 29 people in two Christian enclaves of northeast Nigeria.
“As Chief of Army Staff, I will be actively involved in this “Operation Zaman Lafiya Dole” to end the madness of Boko Haram if I will have your collective maximum support and cooperation”, he said in a speech in neigbouring Yobe State.
Military and police sources confirmed the attack to Reuters.
President Muhammadu Buhari has been approached by a faction, as it named itself, of the deadly Boko Haram sect, seeking peace negotiations with Nigeria’s government.
The talks between President Buhari and his Cameroonian counterpart are expected to focus on the full activation and deployment of the Multinational Joint Task Force against Boko Haram, which has been established under the auspices of the Lake Chad Basin Commission. “Churches, mosques, shops and homes have been destroyed”.
The Council statement also spotlights the “deteriorating humanitarian situation” in the Lake Chad Basin countries, with close to 1.9 million people forcibly displaced in the region. They however made concerted effort at about 3.00am this morning which was equally repelled by the gallant soldiers.
“Violent clashes” were underway near Baga Sola, one of the main Chadian towns in the lake that straddles Chad, Cameroon, Nigeria and Niger, a Chadian security source told AFP, adding that Chadian forces had earlier “intercepted fleeing Boko Haram elements” around 20 km (12 miles) to the southeast.
