Bill Clinton unloads on Bernie Sanders and his ‘mythical establishment’
Speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union”, Sander said that he’s heard of these supporters, and that what they’re doing is “disgusting”, which will probably surprise the Bernie Bros.
Sanders’ backers believe that as African-Americans learn more about the Vermont senator, they will warm to his liberal message, pointing to a endorsement this week by former NAACP President Ben Jealous. Last week’s controversial caucuses in Iowa saw Clinton getting one more delegate than Sanders. “You may not support me now, but I will always support you, and I will always fight to get results for you”. Clinton is one of the best known political figures in the world and has strong backing among Latinos and black voters.
“We’re going to take stock, but it’s going to be the campaign that I’ve got”, Clinton said according to excerpts of an interview to be broadcast Monday night on MSNBC. Does that reflect in any way on the Sanders campaign or which candidate should win the Democratic primary? “It bothers me to be in an election where debate is impossible, because if you disagree you’re just part of the establishment”, he said.
The former president’s comments are reminiscent of his behavior in the run-up to the 2008 New Hampshire primary, when he said that then-Sen.
As the New York Times reports, he mocked Sanders’s criticism of the “establishment”, snarking that according to Sanders, “Anybody that doesn’t agree with me is a tool of the establishment”.
Polls now show Sanders leading Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire, where primaries will be held on Tuesday.
“Hillary is a known commodity, and Bernie isn’t for a lot of people”, said Jackie Fearon, 55, of New Jersey.
Clinton also accused the Sanders campaign of shirking responsibility for improperly accessing Clinton campaign voter data in a high-profile incident in December.
Clinton has recently made the crisis in Flint a top issue of her campaign.
Allegations that supporters of Bernie Sanders have been harassing people on social media for preferring Hillary Clinton have become a nettlesome issue for the Sanders campaign. Barack Obama’s positioning on the Iraq war was “the biggest fairy tale I’ve ever seen”.
At a town hall for New England College students in Henniker on Saturday, a young woman asked Clinton why some people think she is too “drilled and rehearsed”.
“I was just heartsick”, she said. As was the case in Iowa, the polls in New Hampshire all over the place.
“Anybody who takes money from Goldman Sachs couldn’t possibly be President”, Clinton added, mockingly.
