Christie to suspend presidential campaign, reports say
On MSNBC Wednesday morning, first-place New Hampshire finisher Donald Trump said he had a “long talk” with Christie Tuesday night but did not go into detail about what was said. Rumors of a backroom deal between Trump and John Kasich to put the Ohioan on the ticket in exchange for the latter’s handful of delegates.
And Mr Bush, his once forlorn campaign re-energised after outpolling Mr Rubio in New Hampshire, made it clear he will aggressively target the two establishment-aligned rivals he needs to defeat to consolidate the party’s support.
Both Clinton and Sanders – the first Jew to win a presidential primary – worked to undercut each other among African-Americans and Hispanics with less than two weeks until the Democratic contests in Nevada and SC.
“When it came to Democrats, Corden acknowledged Sanders” win and said that Hillary Clinton was just a few million coin tosses short during this election.
Mr Sanders met one of American’s most prominent civil rights activists, Al Sharpton, just hours after New Hampshire.
But one of the sources said it would natural for him to eventually back a governor in the race for the GOP nomination. Whether he can export his success to upcoming primary and caucus states – SC and Nevada later this month, and the “Super Tuesday” array on March 1 – remains to be determined.
“We very easily could be looking at May – or the convention”, Sullivan said as Rubio’s charter jet traveled from New Hampshire to SC this week. A first-term senator, Rubio also said Bush, at one time Rubio’s mentor in Florida politics, has no foreign policy experience. He says the way to do that is by keeping businesses in the USA, rebuilding the military and restructuring immigration.
In Sumter, South Carolina, Bush effectively called Trump a failure.
“We love God, we’re gun owners, military veterans and we’re fed up with what’s happening in Washington”, Cruz said. From the 1952 election through 1988, the winning president also won the Granite State’s primary. His campaign confirmed former President George W. Bush will campaign in SC next week.
But how to take down Trump is at the moment a theoretical concern.
At a Pawley’s Island pancake house Thursday, Kasich pledged a positive campaign. “It’s all negative”, he said. “Either it will work or it won’t”.
Bush and Kasich, meanwhile, are concentrating their early efforts along the SC coast, which includes many transplants, veterans and active military – and which has trended in the past to more moderate candidates like Mitt Romney, the GOP’s 2012 nominee, and John McCain, the 2008 nominee. It’s less socially conservative, less religious and more in favor of the GOP establishment than Iowa. The other 21 delegates are distributed evenly to the winners of the seven congressional districts. Marco Rubio during Saturday’s Republican debate: “You have not been involved in a consequential decision where you had to be held accountable”.
Cruz, who has run second in SC polling, will try to catch Trump by leaning heavily on evangelicals.
But lost in the shuffle seems to be Cruz, the man who won Iowa and finished third in New Hampshire – despite it not being a state that lines up well with him demographically. “Do you agree with what she said?”
When asked during a separate appearance if Cruz, who according to polls is Trump’s next closest competitor in SC, was a threat to him in the Palmetto State, the mogul wouldn’t deny it.
Kasich, who posted a strong result in New Hampshire (finishing second) had raised $8 million and had $2 million on hand, according to The New York Times article.
