Marco Rubio’s ‘America’ ad features skyline
Marco Rubio’s latest ad, “Morning Again”, aimed to imitate Ronald Reagan’s famous 1984 “Morning in America” ad, but Rubio’s ad team missed one important detail: the stock footage wasn’t actually from America.
Flying on the tugboat is a Canadian flag, and sharp-eyed viewers will also notice the Vancouver Lookout Tower.
The Rubio campaign gave a tip of the hat to Buzzfeed for catching the Vancouver shot.
The ad criticizes U.S. President Barack Obama’s economic record, saying more people are out of work than ever before and Americans are paying more in taxes than basic needs.
One commenter on the Q13 News Facebook page wonders if the campaign may have even gotten the time of day wrong in the opening shot.
Another video from Chevasse that appears to have been filmed on the same day shows another unmistakable Vancouver landmark- the five white sails atop Canada Place.
Except that Vancouver is indisputably in Canada.
Guy Chavasse shot the original video footage of Vancouver a year ago.
‘I’m not exactly a big Republican fan or a Rubio supporter, ‘ Chavesse said, but added ‘it’s always cool to see your stuff being used’. The Florida senator just released an ad titled “Morning Again in America”, which opens with three seconds of attractive stock footage… not in America. Ted Cruz, who was born in Canada as Trump reminds us on a daily basis, had created the ad.
