SsangYong debuts extended Tivoli XLV and hybrid SIV-2 concept
It appears that the Tivoli XLV is indeed a bigger version of the Tivoli, but the extra that’s on offer is all bolted on the back.
We’ve seen the SIV-1 concept at the Geneva Motor show about three years ago and this is not an entirely new one.
Ssangyong will extend its Tivoli crossover range with a longer, more spacious XLV model this summer.
Sharing the same wheelbase as its older (albeit littler) brother, the XLV has been lengthened by 235mm behind the rear pillar, increasing its overall capacity to 720 cubic litres. Moreover, SsangYong is also launching Tivoli in India this year.
With such similar characteristics to the auto that spawned it, SsangYong will be hoping that the XLV inherits its not-as-ugly-as-you-might-think abilities as well.
As the name suggests, the SIV-2 follows the SIV-1 from the 2013 Geneva show, but the 1’s conventional powerplant has now been swapped for a hybrid set-up.
No availability date or pricing was provided for the Tivoli XLV, although the regular Tivoli starts at GBP £12,950 (approximately USA $18,500).
Powertrain options will include the same 1.6-litre diesel and petrol engines already offered in the Tivoli, coupled to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
Being a concept, it will come powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine which will work together with electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack.
Apart from this, the SIV-2 concept is also advantageous due to its lightweight body and low centre of gravity that offers the benefit of driving dynamics.
