TRS Wrests Narayanakhed Assembly Seat From Congress In Telangana
The victory was attributed to Irrigation minister T Harish Rao as Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had entrusted him with the task of leading the campaign.
Having won the Warangal Lok Sabha seat with one of the biggest margins and sweeping the GHMC and wresting a traditional Congress bastion Narayankhed Assembly seat in by-election and luring two-third MLAs of the TDP the TRS was now left only with conquering two more city corporations Warangal and Khammam. Also TDP just missed to loose the deposit here too. The poll result came as a morale booster for TRS as the party continued its track record of winning all the bypolls that it contested since its inception.
The by-election was necessitated due to the death of sitting Congress legislator P. Kishta Reddy in August 2015. While Bhupal Reddy polled 93,076 votes, Sanjeeva Reddy got 39,451 votes.
Bhupal Reddy of TRS has emerged as the victor by thrashing P Sanjeeva Reddy of Congress and M Vijayapal Reddy of TDP (polled 14,787 votes).
Narayankhed seat was a challenging task for Harish Rao as it was considered to be the Congress fort for almost five decades. The TRS led all the 21 rounds of counting. Narayankhed remains the most backward among all other constituencies in Medak district. “It’s a birthday gift for KCR garu from the people of Narayankhed”, he said.
Despite a categorical denial of a senior leader of Telangana Rashtra Samiti, speculation of the State ruling party joining the BJP-led NDA alliance at the Centre is refusing to die.
