George W. Bush offers tough Trump takedown in campaign debut
He’s hoping that family ties, political connections, and the state’s military tradition can rescue a campaign that’s being battered by the cross-currents of an anti-establishment fervor among the electorate and a rising populism that’s attracting voters to outsiders such as Donald Trump. At first, the involvement was limited to headlining fundraisers. While she was excited to see George W. Bush – “an excellent president” – she said his appearance won’t sway her decision. Trump dismissed Jeb Bush’s suggestion that George W. Bush built a “security apparatus to keep us safe” after the 9/11 attacks.
“He needs something, even though (former President George W. Bush)” might not be “universally loved, even among Republicans”, Pidot said. “I never thought that at a Republican debate, we would be talking about impeaching a Republican, two-term president who is extraordinarily popular and for good reason among Republicans”.
