Observance Information for Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Scott Smith
When the funeral for Navy Petty Officer Randall Smith ends Tuesday afternoon, the city of Chattanooga has announced the procession’s route.
Channel 2’s Berndt Petersen is live at 4:03 p.m.in Fort Oglethorpe where the church service was held.
The Navy Sailor was one of five service members killed in the Chattanooga shootings two weeks ago.
Smith, a Logistics Specialist, was stationed in Norfolk from 2011 to 2014 aboard the USS Wasp before transferring to Tennessee.
Smith wasn’t from Catoosa County, but he made it his home while working at a Naval and Marine Reserve Center in Chattanooga.
The service was open primarily to family, friends, service members, and dignitaries.
The Smith family, including his three young daughters, attended First Baptist of Fort Oglethorpe.
Collected funds will be in an education trust for Randall’s three daughters.
– The procession will take a right on Battlefield Parkway, heading east. Eventually, the procession will exit onto Highway 153.
Once again local fire departments cooperated to raise a huge flag across Amnicola Highway near the scene of the tragic shooting.
– From Amnicola, the procession will head south before turning left onto Wilcox Boulevard. Lafayette Road in front of and immediately outside of First Baptist Church will be closed beginning at 8:00am.
Holtzclaw from Bailey Avenue to 12th Street will be closed beginning at 3 p.m. Detours will be posted.
A simulcast of Randall Smith’s funeral will be broadcast at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 28 at Paulding High School auditeria.
– The city has also advised driver to avoid Interstate 75 from Fort Oglethorpe to the split with Highway 153 from 3-4:30 p.m.
