Wenger praises Arsenal’s mental desire against Leicester
Wes Morgan insists Leicester City will not dwell on the last-minute defeat to Arsenal as they aim to bounce back in the Premier League title race.
Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck scored a last-gasp victor at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday night to condemn Leicester to just their third league defeat of the season and Morgan stressed that the players would bounce back quickly.
Perhaps wary of the injury suffered by Tomas Rosicky after the Czech global made his long-awaited comeback, Arsene Wenger had Welbeck warming up with over half an hour of the game remaining. It goes without saying it makes it a lot more hard. “We’ll be back on it”. Whilst Sunday’s result may have shifted the momentum in their favour, several tricky obstacles still await the Gunners that could prove fatal; something which the players and fans perhaps should have considered before wildly celebrating on social media.
“It was a great decision because Danny Welbeck is a great player, and you never know in our job if somebody else had come on would he have scored or not”. He is a player who has been missed badly.
But Simpson’s dismissal after two bookings – for impeding Alexis Sanchez and holding back Olivier Giroud – changed the course of the game and they finished the weekend with Spurs and Arsenal breathing down their necks. His last league goal for the Gunners had been in December 2014. For the most part, that’s been down to the fact that they’ve been shorn of attacking options. Warmly applauded as he came on in the latter stages, he’d worked on his fitness by training intently and playing under-21 fixtures prior to his inclusion in the matchday squad.
Diego Costa, wearing a mask to protect a broken nose, Pedro Rodriguez and Willian all found the net inside the first 17 minutes, with Pedro adding a second goal before substitute Bertrand Traore completed the rout. Jack Wilshere has yet to play. It’s the first time in my career that I’ve missed so much football.
ESPN FC’s Shaka Hislop discusses Arsenal’s title chances. “We came out of a bad spell with four games without a win, but now we’ve won two games on the bounce”. He hit the heights with a brilliant European hat trick against Galatasaray, but ended up with just eight goals to his name. Making the difference is very important in this league as you could see today. Theo Walcott caught Arsenal the equalizer on 71st minute with danny welbeck giving the gunners all three points.
