Marvel’s Joe Quesada on casting The Punisher and Elektra for Daredevil season
Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada talked to IGN about how their Netflix shows, including the upcoming Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, allow the MCU to tell darker stories, which is why their exploits are smaller in comparison to the the global conflicts the Avengers and the other big screen heroes handle. He also praised the world class cast of Daredevil and the world class Cox, with it being vital to them to secure an actor on that level for the role. Daredevil, Jessica Jones and all those other characters, they’re about saving a neighborhood, they’re about saving a block, they’re about saving an apartment complex. Moreso, he explained that while the medium is different, the importance and stakes are just as high as it should be for any Marvel releases. Excited for these two new characters? Through the Netflix platform we’re able to explore a much darker sensibility, a more adult sensibility.
“Daredevil lives in Hell’s Kitchen so it’s very, very personal”, the Marvel CCO revealed. Jon Bernthal has signed on to play The Punisher, with Elodie Yung joining the cast as Elektra. “That’s just a testimonial the incredible crew and cast that we have”.
“That’s why we pay our fantastic Writers Room the big bucks”, Quesada jokingly said.
He also had nothing but praise for Bernthal’s performance.
He spoke at length about Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle and how his scenes with Charlie Cox are going to be “epic”.
Moreover, Quesada teased that viewers may expect a great new season, “Doug Petrie and Mark Ramirez, the co-showrunners, have concocted an incredible series, an fantastic season this year and believe me, sparks will fly and it’s going to be pretty phenomenal”. Joe: “Retaliation” star Elodie Yung. The website added that although the Gladiator may not be that good in martial arts, he is still as agile as Daredevil and he makes up for what he lacks with his sheer force. “It’s going to be really, really awesome to see her take over the role and see how she embodies and how she personifies Elektra“. Given the highly-rated audience response to the first crop of episodes, there’s even more buzz and anticipation for the new season coming to the streaming service next year.
