Adele experiences sound problem during her Grammy performance
RIHANNA was advised by doctors not to perform because of danger to her vocal cords after singing in rehearsal, while LAURYN HILL was a no-show for a guest appearance during THE WEEKND’s set, after similarly appearing at the dress, then not arriving on time.
While the award-winning singer was performing the hit ballad “All I Ask, ” there seemed to be multiple audio glitches, which of course didn’t help Adele hit her signature high notes as she visibly struggled to stay on key. It made it sound out of tune.
But the 27-year-old artist was not about to let one soundperson’s incompetence ruin her evening. She called it “S$$t happens”.
Viewers tweeting along with the broadcast could tell something was off about the performance: why did the sound cut out for a few seconds?
Backstage, Recording Academy President and CEO Neil Portnow explained the piano mishap, adding, “These things happen…all the time to all kinds of people”.
“Something like that can easily be distracting or off-putting”, Portnow said.
Speaking to UsMagazine.com, he said: “All credit to her for the professional that she is”.
In any case, the audio person, who has now been as vilified as the Patriot’s Stephen Gostkowski was when he missed the extra point in the AFC Championship against the Denver Broncos, apparently switched to a backup system to cover the discordance and that caused another problem. “It was fastened in a matter of seconds, however we have by no means glad when one thing like that occurs”. “That was all an issue on our behalf”.
“Catching up on Grammys… feel bad to say but [Adele’s] performance was flat and off tune in some places”, Twitter user @balasankaran wrote on the social media sit on February 16, joking, “Am I going to get banned from internet?”
