Bentley Flying Spur V8 S gets more power and better handling
Called the V8 S, the new version sits above the V8 and below the range-topping W12 in the Flying Spur range.
The 2016 Bentley Flying Spur V8 S will celebrate its world premiere on March 1 at the Geneva Motor Show. Its engine sends 528 PS (521 hp) to the all-wheel-drive system, compared to the 507 PS (500 hp) of the plain V8. That shaves 0.3 second off the sedan’s 0 to 60 miles per hour time, allowing the Flying Spur V8 S to do the job in 4.9 seconds. Variable displacement, in which four of the eight cylinders shut down when cruising, reduces fuel consumption without any loss of refinement. Elsewhere, new responsive suspension tuning is employed to improve handling.
Some subtle styling changes differentiate the V8 S from other Flying Spur models. Inside, as you’d expect, the cabin is created to be luxurious and spacious, with black wood veneers, but also a three-spoke sports steering wheel and gear shift paddles reflecting the car’s sporty focus.
Anyone interested in buying the luxury sedan from Crewe previously had two models to choose from: the V8 and the mighty W12. The V8 S also gets optional carbon ceramic brakes with red or black painted calipers.
Bentley will deliver the first customer Bentley Flying Spur V8 S in the summer.
Finally, the aesthetic novelties include dark exterior highlights such as the black radiator grille or the Beluga gloss rear diffuser as standard, but further customization is available should the buyer desire it, all going with the same dark theme: “Dark-tint lights (front and rear), black gloss exterior mirror covers and a unique Mulliner Driving Specification 21” black and bright machined six-spoke wheels. Of course, Bentley’s options lists are legendary, and customers can specify any number of accoutrements for the Flying Spur, ranging from higher-quality leather upholstery to a rear-seat infotainment system. Owners can also get “V8 S” stitching in the headrests, in case they forget what vehicle they’re in.
Bentley’s design team has developed an athletic vehicle that combines traditional Bentley styling cues with a sporting stance.
