Leonardo DiCaprio, ‘The Revenant’ win big at BAFTA Awards
“Mad Max: Fury Road” won four BAFTAs: editing, costume design, production design, and makeup and hair. “Carol” didn’t win anything.
“Amy” won best documentary, and “The Hurtful Eight” won best original music.
Eddie Redmayne presented Winslet with the award who said: ‘Oh my gosh – what an incredible year to be nominated.
She dedicated her win “to all those young women who doubt themselves” saying, “because you shouldn’t be doubting – you should just be going for it”.
British stars Winslet and Mark Rylance won the supporting actress and actor prizes.
However Co Carlow actress Saoirse Ronan, who was nominated for her role in the film, based on the novel by Colm Tóibín, lost out in the best actress category.
The EE Rising star Bafta award, the only award voted for by the public, went to “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Attack the Block” British star John Boyega.

Outstanding debut by a British writer, director or producer went to Jordanian pic “Theeb”, directed by Naji Abu Nowar, beating out the more well-known “Ex Machina”, helmed by Alex Garland.
The movie awards season has been dominated by debate about why the film industry remains dominated by white men. “Spotlight, ” about the Boston Globe’s effort to uncover a priest sex-abuse scandal in the Catholic Church, won for best original screenplay.
“Brooklyn” won for outstanding British film, and “Amy, ‘ which chronicles the tragic life of the late British singer Amy Winehouse, took documentary honors”.
While Smith took a moment to realize she was on screen, the Titanic actor instantly got to his feet and leant in to plant a gentlemanly and respectful kiss on the veteran British actress’s cheek.
