Ryan Reynolds Hijacks Hugh Jackman’s Eddie the Eagle Press Junket
This is a huge score for Miller, a big win for Marvel, and great for Fox – their best opening weekend ever. Something that has actually left people talking about is the lovemaking scenes between the lead pair, Morena Baccarin and Ryan Reynolds. After Deadpool was ill-served-and literally had his mouth sewn shut-in the lame first Wolverine solo film, Reynolds saw the untapped potential in the character for comedy and high energy that matched his own. His name wasn’t on the marquee with that flick, though, and it wouldn’t be until DC Comics’ 2011 effort Green Lantern that Reynolds would finally have his chance at superstardom and all of the riches of a comic book franchise.
It’s not clear whether the movie’s commercial and critical success improves the quality of the superhero factory or, as Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn warned, teaches Marvel the wrong lessons.
Sure, Deadpool covered pretty heavy topics, touching on cancer, Wade’s disfigurement and there were brutal fight scenes, but overall the movie didn’t take itself too seriously and had humour running throughout.
Is “Deadpool” Ryan Reynolds’s Superhero Redemption? The budget for “Deadpool” was estimated to be $58 million and has so far received $282 million from the worldwide box-office.
But after Deadpool’s success, studios might be looking to play up the humorous side of their characters a bit more. It is filled with unbeatable humour including a lot of fourth wall breaks by the hero and kickass action sequences. The movie is based on a character from the Marvel Comics, who is also a part of “X-Men” films. The “X-Men” spinoff earned the biggest opening weekend for an R-rated movie surpassing “The Matrix Reloaded”, which grossed $91 million (Fri.-Sun.) in 2003. It’s refreshing to see Jackman joke about the failed origin story, since he’s generally careful discussing the more disappointing X-Men pictures, although he’s admitted Origins didn’t deliver for fans.
There’s also a fleeting update on how the script for Deadpool 2 is progressing, with the actor revealing that, unsurprisingly, Fox is keen to put the gun-toting mercenary back to work.
