Bush swings at Trump, Rubio on national security

The results from the poll – conducted after Trump’s victory in New Hampshire and Saturday’s GOP debate in SC – are a significant reversal from last month, when Trump held a 13-point lead over Cruz, 33 percent to 20 percent.

Haley’s endorsement is seen as a big boost for Rubio, but this does not guarantee him a win in SC, despite the fact that the Indian-American is one of the most popular governor’s in the state’s history.

“She’s a very good governor, and should I win the nomination, there will be a role for her in the campaign”, Bush, 63, told reporters after a campaign event in Summerville, South Carolina.

Perhaps Haley has concluded that her implied criticism of Trump in her response to the State of the Union address already effectively disqualifies her from being his running mate. Bernie Sanders face off during the Nevada caucuses on Saturday.

The Florida senator leads the 2016 field in endorsements from U.S. House Republicans, U.S. Senate Republicans, and now, sitting Republican governors.

Trump is polling at 42 percent among likely Republican primary voters, while Cruz is in second at 20 percent.

“If Donald Trump files the lawsuit that he threatens, that lawsuit will be frivolous”, Cruz said in televised press conference on Wednesday.

“Even in the annals of frivolous lawsuits, this takes the cake”, he said. Trump says he has evolved into a conservative and is now against abortion.

Trump has taken issue with Cruz’s statements about Trump’s supposed support for Obamacare and taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood.

Trump responded by goading Cruz, saying that “time will tell, Teddy”, as he repeated his threat of lawsuits – over a Cruz campaign ad or over his eligibility for the presidency, given the Texas senator’s Canadian birth – off the table. They’re followed by Marco Rubio at 17 percent, John Kasich at 11 percent, Ben Carson at 10 percent and Jeb Bush at 4 percent. In an interview Tuesday with Peter Alexander of NBC News, Bush said her endorsement “would be the most powerful meaningful one in the state”.

Trump fumed about a TV ad put out by the Cruz campaign that brought up Trump’s past position in support of a woman’s right to an abortion.

“It’s just a pattern of people around his campaign that have continuously done things like that”, Rubio said as he campaigned in Mount Pleasant. He denied being involved with anything untoward and called for anyone with evidence to come forward.

Trump has repeatedly advocated enhanced interrogation techniques for foreign prisoners, and he said again Wednesday he would “absolutely” allow waterboarding, which simulates the feeling of drowning.
