Adele explains Grammys mishap to Ellen DeGeneres
“I cried pretty much all day yesterday” the 27-year-old singer said during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show airing on Thursday. “I kept spontaneously bursting into tears yesterday but it was all right, I’m fine”.
Today, Adele appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where, after performing “All I Ask“, she somewhat expectedly discussed her Grammys performance of the same song (in which a mess-up with the mic made it sound somewhat out of tune) and then somewhat less expectedly pranked a Jamba Juice. “And then it kind of put the whole thing off really”, she said.
“I woke up the next morning to people in England being like, ‘We still love you, don’t worry, ‘ ” she said. But I actually felt like it went well. But she insisted that she is “always a bit pitchy”.
But what is the nature of the pressure that Adele feels?
Adele, who is known for her tear-jerker ballads, said she likely “would have cried if it went really well as well”, but conceded the performance went badly. “In fairness, I would have cried if it went really well”.
Adele also told her host that she’s nervous “more than ever” ahead of her performances as the pressure mounts with her success.
“Next time, I will [stop and start over]”, Adele continued. “If we have time to do it again, let’s do it; otherwise, bye!”, she said. “Anything that happens is like ‘Dust it off'”. “Next time I have any sound issues, I am going to stop”. She embodied the “you do you” ethos and taught us all, if you’ve got it flaunt it.
With DeGeneres in her ear telling her what to say, Adele was hilariously portrayed as a confused diva trying to incorrectly order a smoothie from the group of surprised and star struck employees. “I would’ve busted a joke, but because it was TV I couldn’t make it my own”.
