With Broncos in the Super Bowl, Raiders fans react
When Seattle destroyed Denver in the 2013 Super Bowl, Quinn dressed nine defensive linemen with the mission statement of sending them in waves after Manning rather than conservatively sit back and try to avoid being picked apart.
The Colts split the pair of games, losing to the Panthers by three in overtime, and followed that up with a three-point victory over the Broncos. Compare that to 327 DUI arrests the last time the Broncos played on Super Bowl Sunday. I didn’t know how that was going to be for him. Denver and Carolina’s defense has more often than not dictated the game’s outcome, especially whether or not the points go over or under. I am rooting for the Panthers to win but overall I’m just a football fan rooting for a good game! It’s not a super hard scheme. They may be a little mentally tired-just a little bit. Athletic-wise they are gifted. I think the combination of Newton, and that attacking defense, will prove too much for Denver. At the heart of the Panthers dominance this season – they carry a 17-1 record into the Super Bowl – has been Newton, whose scoring statistics have nearly seen him redefine the role of quarterback.
“Unreal”, he said. “You know”. “If you do that you are in trouble”.
But one thing Newton has that Brady doesn’t – at least this season – is a run game. It always has been.
“Darn right, we brought it”, he said. The Panthers aren’t afraid to use their franchise quarterback on designed runs, whether it’s on read options or just straight quarterback power runs.
Manusky also added the Broncos will be in good shape if they can get the Panthers in third and long situations, but cautioned the defense has to be able to get off the field.
“I can see the benefits of it, but it’s something I’m not comfortable with”, Osweiler said.
“He’s like a combination of two quarterbacks that were great quarterbacks in this league”, said Broncos defensive end Antonio Smith. “He and Cam work well together”.
Tory said Friday he’s got a “sentimental bet” on the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning. If they get out of their rush lane and leave a gap open, Newton will exploit it with his legs.
Then we have the Carolina defense, who will absolutely have to send the house several times if they want to bother the great Peyton Manning.
And to flip the coin, I’d also go further to say that the ever stingy Panther defense may be better off with a game plan consisting with lots of disguised blitzes, throughout the big game. Both offensive lines will need to be on top of their game in this contest, otherwise these defenses will be looking to capitalize and could have some game-changing plays. Who would you pick?
“You deliver the ball from your feet”. Getting there in two or three seconds doesn’t matter.
All 53 Broncos players are listed as probable for the Super Bowl, so injuries will not be an excuse this time around.
