School ends shelter order issued over report of armed people
The University of MA lifted an emergency shelter-in-place order shortly after 7:15 p.m. Thursday, but campus police continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the campus being shut down for more than an hour, officials said.
The university says on its website campus police have secured a perimeter around Pierpoint Hall. By Thursday evening, however, calls for students to remain sheltered in place had been cancelled.
The university said the suspect is a white male wearing a dark shirt and a gold chain.
No shots have been reported fired and no one has been reported injured.
This story has been corrected to show the name of the dormitory is Pierpont Hall, not Pierpoint Hall.
Jemele Hill, a reporter and TV personality for ESPN, tweeted that she is on campus during the lockdown. “Damn, the new normal”.
