$200 scratch lotto winnings lead woman to help homeless man
Andrade, a single mom of three, had just picked up $200 in lottery winnings and said she saw it as a sign to help the man out on a freezing night.
They say it’s better to give than to receive, and a MA woman agrees. Eventually, she’ll help him apply for housing.
Lorena is now working on securing long term accommodation for Williams, who said that he “couldn’t believe there’s somebody” like her.
Andrade called Williams over to her auto and took him to a coffee shop.
“It was then I knew why I won the $200, God placed Glenn in my path for a reason”, she wrote.
Using her lottery winnings, Andrade rented a motel room for Williams near her home in Wareham for a two-night stay while she continued to look out for more suitable housing options, according to the Daily News.
Homeless for three years, Glenn Williams has a new lease on life. She also started a GoFundMe page, which had raised $13,000 for Williams’ long-term care by Tuesday evening. “Can I buy you a cup of coffee?'” Andrade, 28, told ABC News in a Tuesday interview, of the Saturday encounter in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
“It’s emotional”, said Williams.
“When I wrote it, I never thought I would receive such a warm response”, Andrade said in a Facebook post. The story went viral, which prompted locals to get involved. The card read, “Know that you are loved this Valentine’s Day!”. Since the post, hundreds of people have given to Williams’ cause, donating everything from clothing and food to money through a GoFundMe page Andrade set up for Williams’ future.
“She deserves a lot of the credit for where I am right now”, he told WCVB5.
A local barber came and gave Williams a haircut.
“I’m overwhelmed with all the help, and I just want to thank everybody for it”, Williams said.
