Good Health Tops Lunar New Year Wishes of Chinese in 2016

After all, this celebration, also known as the spring festival in China, is about a process of renewal, which naturally prompts people to buy new things to start the new year. Hundreds of thousands of people visited traditional fairs in the parks of Beijing, and Buddhist and Taoist temples that held singing and dance performances and craft markets.

This year, according to the Chinese calendar, the Spring Festival or the Year of the Fire Monkey began yesterday and continues until the Lantern festival, on the 15th day of the New Year.

Julius Caesar, Leonardo da Vinci, Charles Dickens, Elizabeth Taylor, Diana Ross, Eleanor Roosevelt and Cuba Gooding Jr. are some famous people born in the Year of the Monkey.

Some strengths they are sociable, innovative, enthusiastic, and self-assured.

The new lunar year is already boosting a fighting style that imitates the movements of a monkey.

The Chinese calendar attaches different animals to each lunar year in a cycle of 12 years. The program included the Lunar New Year Art Fair, featuring calligraphy by Zuyou Zhang and paper cutting by professor Yishen Lai.

Being the year of the Monkey, staff at Wild Futures’ Monkey Sanctuary came up with a way to celebrate the event and pay homage to Chinese tradition- giving the monkeys gifts and red envelopes with goodies inside.

Bad weather conditions forced the celebrations to finish early, but there were still magical sights to behold as the party atmosphere took over the city centre. The event is an effort to let people from all over the world experience the beauty of Chinese culture, and, in a move to convey the New Year’s blessings.
