Tennessee defensive lineman Alexis Johnson jailed, suspended
Tennessee defensive lineman Alexis Johnson was suspended from the team following his arrest Wednesday. Robinson said the team would have no further comment at this time.
According to an arrest report Johnson was taken into custody at 8:43 p.m. on Wednesday.
Johnson, 20, faces charges of aggravated assault and false imprisonment.
The woman told police that Johnson placed his hand around her throat and choked her to the point that she thought she was going to pass out.
As of Thursday morning, Johnson was listed as an inmate on the Knox County Jail site, however there were no details regarding charges or anything else with his mugshot. Our firm is conducting its own independent and more expansive investigation. “Alexis looks forward to having this matter resolved as expeditiously as possible”. The witness said that Johnson tried repeatedly to touch and kiss the victim who repeatedly refused interest in a sexual encounter.
Johnson was the nation’s No. 2 junior college defensive tackle prospect for 2016.
Court records say the victim reportedly slapped Johnson in defense, and tried to leave the bedroom, but says Johnson blocked the door.
A JUCO transfer from Fort Scott Community College in Kansas, Johnson enrolled in Tennessee in January after signing an early letter of intent.
The arrest comes one week after six unidentified women filed a lawsuit in federal court that said Tennessee has violated Title IX regulations and created a “hostile sexual environment” through a policy of indifference toward assaults by student-athletes.
