Bruno Mars wins Grammy for “Uptown Funk”
In a weird choice for the closing act, rapper Pitbull, whose album Dale won Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album, sang with Robin Thicke, who not only has no nominations, but has also not released anything significant of late.
Less than a week after West drew backlash for his song Famous, in which he suggested that he made Swift famous by crashing the stage during her 2009 MTV Video Music Awards acceptance speech, the pop star indirectly responded to his diss. Accepting album of the year for her blockbuster 1989, Swift took a moment to address “the young women out there”.
The Shake It Off singer became the first female to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice when she scooped the award for 1989 in Los Angeles on Monday (15Feb16).
“Someday when you get where you’re going”, Swift said, “you’ll look around and know that it was you and the people who loved you who put you there”.
However, the loss of Lamar’s widely acclaimed album “To Pimp a Butterfly” to Swift’s bestselling pop opus will likely re-awaken criticism of the Recording Academy’s voting membership, which has consistently declined to hand top honors uncompromising rap in the general-field categories.
Uptown Funk, which won Record of the Year, is Ronson’s single with Bruno Mars, who is of Puerto Rican- Filipino descent.
He gave special thanks to his parents, who were in the audience, saying that they come to the show every year.
