There Might Be More ‘X-Files’ Headed Your Way
It’s taken more than a decade, but The X-Files is finally getting a chance to really pay off its long-running alien conspiracy arc. The miniseries comes to a close on Monday night with the final episode airing at 10pm EST on Fox, but that might not be the end for the series.
FOX hasn’t made any official comment on the possibility of season 2, but Variety reports the deciding factor would be the schedules of the show’s leading cast members, specifically Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. What do you think? Are you excited at the idea of even more new X-Files episodes? The episode somehow started off with a young Muslim man carrying out a suicide bombing (because of course he does), takes a wacky doppelgangers/magic mushrooms detour, and finishes with Mulder and Scully explicitly discussing the episode’s heavy-handed and simplistic themes, which basically amount to “racism is bad and so is terrorism”, and also managed to draw parallels between fraught global relations and the Mulder/Scully relationship, with a shout-out to a “mother’s love” (gag) for good measure. The X-Files miniseries’ worldwide viewers reached to an overwhelming 50 million during the first three days following the show’s debut in 80 countries. The network has said from the get-go that there may be more new episodes in the near future.
“My Struggle II” season finale episode of The X-Files will air Monday, February 22 at 8:00PM ET/PT on Fox. “So we would be on board if schedules can be worked out”.
David Duchovny had said in the past that he wouldn’t be up for doing a 22 show season, and Gillian Anderson has other projects on her plate, so another season is still very much up in the air, though there is quite a demand for it. That’s like continuing the show in a way that we all can do at this point in our lives so that’s how it all came about… “I would hope it will be successful, I would hope we could continue, but right now, I’m just looking at it as these six, and then we’ll see what happens”.
