Canon introduces new range of cameras, other accessories in India
The EOS 80D has just been revealed as a successor to the 70D, the enthusiast’s champion camera with enough dials and displays to keep you snapping without fiddling with a touchscreen. With select lenses, 27 of those points are available all the way down to f/8 aperture.
Canon is also introducing a new EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens optimized for high-speed autofocusing when shooting stills and quiet and smooth zoom when shooting video. The EOS 70D also has the same battery capacity. Dual Pixel CMOS AF employs a new Canon CMOS sensor with which all of the effective pixels are able to perform both still imaging and phase-detection AF simultaneously to achieve dramatically improved AF performance during Live View and video shooting.
Created to shoot in varying light conditions, the camera has a native ISO 100-16,000 range, expandable to ISO 25,600, and the AF system will continue to work even under moonlight (-3EV). Other video features remain the same-there’s still a vari-angle touch-screen LCD and video still tops out at 1080, but the maximum frame rate has been increased to 60fps. Under an exterior that’s strikingly familiar to its predecessor, the new 80D sports some welcomed technical improvements as well as a few minor performance enhancements. It was the first model to leverage on-sensor Dual Pixel AF, a system that allowed for quick, smooth transitions in focus without the hunting back and forth that is associated with contrast-based methods. The new sensor provides stunning clarity and the freedom to crop in, while the new 45 all cross-type point AF system and 7 fps shooting can freeze action with ultimate precision. Canon claims this new camera can adapt to its owner needs. It’ll capture video in 1080p Full HD MP4 format at up to 60 frames per second, up from the 30 fps limit of the 70D, and offers several creative filters like old movie, fantasy, memory, miniature and dramatic monochrome.
Viewfinder is considered to be best update as it increases 100% scene coverage. The camera has a 3-inch, 1.04 million-dot LCD that allows clear viewing when outdoors and flexible positioning. The 80D has a near identical layout, which should keep Canon fans happy, and a deeper, more tactile grip for more comfortable shooting. This lets users control the camera from a tablet or smartphone with the Canon Camera Connect app.
In addition to the new SLR and accessories, Canon is unveiling a pair of compact cameras.
Canon announced that the EOS 80D will be available from March this year and the body only will have an estimated price tag of $1,199.
Mumbai: Canon recently expanded its product line with the launch of one new DSLR camera, the EOS 80D, two new compact cameras-the premium compact PowerShot G7X Mark II and the ultra-zoom PowerShot SX720 HS; one new lens, EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, and a newly developed Power Zoom Adapter-PZ-E1 in India on Thursday. However, both devices can be purchased together for $1799.
