The Levante is expected to cost from £65,000 and Maserati’s boss Harald Wester is confident that the fifth model line will become the company’s biggest seller and the catalyst for Maserati to reach its 2018 sales target of 70,000 vehicles, doubling its current volume.
Set to be unveiled next month at the Geneva Motor Show, the Levante will be based on a modified version of the rear-wheel-drive underpinnings from the Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans.
Maserati says the Levante will run gasoline and diesel engines, though it didn’t specify what U.S. models will get under the hood.
The official pictures show the car’s exterior in full, and one shot of the interior has also been leaked online along with engine details.
Its believed the petrol variants will share the 3.0-litre V6 petrol that does service in both the Ghibli and Quatroporte and should be good for 0-100km/h from 5.2 seconds to 6.3 seconds depending on the state of tune. The entry-level diesel does the sprint in 6.9 seconds and will manage 143mph flat-out. To ensure the lovely body doesn’t drag on any rocks during an off-road adventure, the SUV has been fitted with sophisticated electronic suspension with air springs – think air bags instead of shocks and struts.
The Levante will be the first SUV in the history of the century-old Italian brand known mostly for its exotic sports cars. Unusually for an SUV, the Levante features frameless door windows.
He also said it would look significantly different to the initial 2011 Kubang concept.
Maserati’s upcoming SUV, the Levante, leaks on the internet, and it seems that the automobile stays true to the patent images we saw a while back.
Maserati is just too excited for the Levante that they couldn’t wait until Geneva to spice things up.
Wester told us the new Jaguar F-Type rival would be the final piece in the puzzle for Maserati’s rejuvenated product range.
