Obama slaps new sanctions on North Korea

Kim’s latest missile launch comes hours after the USA sent four of its F-22 stealth fighter jets to South Korea as a warning to the North.
North Korea, under the leadership of Kim Jong-Un, last month announced they had successfully tested a hydrogen bomb.
The expanded sanctions are created to deny North Korea the money it needs to develop miniaturized nuclear warheads and the long-range missiles needed to deliver them.
“It is my hope that global actors – like the United Nations Security Council and China – will take notice of this strong showing of US leadership and leverage the momentum to implement similar measures”, Menendez said.
China has said some of the measures could cripple North Korea’s economy.
The sanctions also called for $50 million dollars to be invested in radio communications in North Korea, anti-terrorism programs within the region, and purchase of communication devices within North Korea. At least according to South Korean seismologists.
“China never believes it should control any country, nor wishes to be controlled by others”, said Fu, who is also the chairwoman of the National People’s Congress’ Foreign Affairs Committee, in a conference.
The radar-evading Raptor jets, accompanied by eight more planes from South Korea and the U.S., flew to Osan Air Base near Pyeongtaek, 45 miles (70km) south from the border with North Korea.

Obama, for his part signed sanctions today against North Korea that would penalize anyone aiding their terrorism efforts, which is in line with Senator Cruz’s plan.
