Celtics cut Lee, Mavs showing interest in former All-Star
It’s very likely that even after the National Basketball Association trade deadline passes at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday, February 18, that there will continue to be rumors about Kevin Love’s future.
The Boston Celtics did not make a move at the trade deadline as they seem satisfied with what the squad has achieved this season.
Lee and the Celtics are in good terms, and Celtics Blog mentions that waiving him instead of the rumored buyout was the organization’s way to express their thanks. Both will command an exorbitant salary that will not match their much less-exorbitant production. “I just remember when he (Lee) was a rookie in a preseason game and he and Dirk (Nowitzki) got into it in a big way”.
Anthony, 31, is due to make more than $24.5 million in 2016, more than $26.2 million in 2017, and nearly $28 million in 2018, with an option for early termination.
“They walked up to me and said they had some shoes in storage, and asked me do I want them”, the younger Crowder explained Friday night before meeting the Jazz. It’s something we had been deliberating on for two days straight.
Owner Mark Cuban wouldn’t commit one way or the other on whether his team has interest in Lee. “So we’ll take care of that, I’ll take care of that, and put them in a glass box for him, and have that for a long time”.
“We talked a lot and we had a lot of interest in our guys, but none that we wanted to trade”, Cuban said. That’s why you can’t blame the C’s for choosing not to sell-out for Love, Griffin or Ainge’s unnamed player.
The fact that the Celtics are in the third spot in the East is nice, but Ainge is more concerned with the outlook of the roster. That’s not a bad thing. The C’s are playing well, have depth and figure to be a hard out in the playoffs for any team not named the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Ainge and Co. still will have the Brooklyn pick and several other assets at their disposal this offseason, so it will be interesting to see if the Celtics revisit this supposed “mystery” deal that reportedly nearly went down. It’s usually bottom dwellers that buy out players, but on occasion, good teams will buy out players if they have plenty of depth in an area. Boston rallied again and cut the Jazz lead to 83-76 after Jared Sullinger made a jumper to cap a 14-4 Celtics run.
