Pebble Beach Pro-Am 2016
The PGA TOUR visits one of the most iconic golf venues in the world this week – Pebble Beach Golf Links – and conducts one of the most popular events on its schedule with the playing of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in Pebble Beach, California.
Molder has some really tough nuts to crack here if he wants to add to his lone PGA Tour victory back in 2011 at the Frys.com Open but this presents a real chance of challenging around three relatively short layouts as he can crucially keep up from the tee-box. The drive was not only long, whizzing past the fairway cypress tree on the fly, it settled in nicely on the left side of the fairway 225 yards from the green. Since injuring his elbow in 2010 and undergoing subsequent surgeries, Weir has been battling to get back in form.
“Matt absolutely crushed that ball”, said Kontos.
Spieth was more animated talking about how Woods inspired him to seriously pursue golf as a youngster.
“There was about 1,000 people behind the green watching, cause, you know, the world’s No. 1 is in the small town of Vero”, Owen said.
Cain, who normally plays in the AT&T main event as a 6-handicap amateur, won’t be playing this year because the tournament conflicts with the Giants’ FanFest at AT&T Park this weekend. First, Spieth surprised Owen by hitting a Happy Gilmore tee shot on the opening hole.
Spieth admitted he had a similar shot previous year and messed it up.
“Tiger and Justin and I were playing so well, and we went over there and none of us played well”, he said.
The Northern Trust Open at Riviera has been rain-free the last four years during the tournament.
If he can do so Ruffels will earn his way officially onto the tour for the 2016-17 season. That’s hard, but I’m definitely feeling a lot better. Oh, and it’s an even year. “I’m like, ‘You’re like 98 yards out in the middle of the fairway”.
But Cain wasn’t as confident that the command issues that troubled him when he did finally pitch have been completely solved.
“Then to even top that, walking up to the Champion’s Locker Room, the new Champion’s Locker Room, and to – I was always interested on who I was sharing my locker with, and I had not heard, and I walked up and saw my name with Mr. Palmer, which was pretty awesome”, he concluded. “You never know who’s going to be up there at the end of the year”.
“Yeah, I dropped a few”, Bochy said. “I just need to find something to latch on to”. I put the blame on myself. “That (his scare last spring) was a wake-up call, it does make you start to watch it a little bit”.
The AT&&T pairings were released for the first three rounds.
Also in the field is four-time champion Phil Mickelson, as well as Jimmy Walker, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed and Ian Poulter. He again has Owen as his amateur partner. We had one season.
Former world number one Luke Donald, Ian Poulter and Irish trio Padraig Harrington, Shane Lowry and Paul Dunne are also competing, with Lowry looking to build on his share of sixth place in last week’s Waste Management Phoenix Open. Mickelson is making his 20th appearance in the event after having to pull out at the last minute in 2015, ending his string of 19 straight entries.
In more recent years three players stand out as specialists in the event.
“I’ve worked at it for years”, Young said. But it’s important to understand that the pressures of being a 22-year-old who’s the world’s best golfer and the reigning Masters and U.S. Open champion haven’t changed him into an all-work-and-no-play type of guy.
“I still believe in myself”, he said confidently.
