Joshua plays down hype ahead of heavyweight title fight
Joshua was promoting his heavyweight world title fight against USA heavyweight Charles Martin in London on April 9.
The two unbeaten foes will go toe to toe at the O2 on April 9 in one of the most anticipated fights on British soil in years.
If Joshua wins – and he will be the favourite – then what do you do with the Olympic gold medallist?
Martin won the belt with a third round victory over Vyacheslav Glazkov in January and immediately called out Joshua to challenge him.
Joshua gets his chance on April 9 when he fights American boxer Charles Martin for the IBF title in his home city of London.
“The power is there and if I tag him enough times, I will be able to knock him out”, Joshua told reporters at a press conference at a London hotel.
That’s why I think 15 fights in this opportunity has presented itself, because of the style and the way I come to fight.
‘We come out and go to war as heavyweights; I think the fans have missed that, ‘ added Joshua. “It’s going to be another unbelievable night of boxing at the O2 and another game-changing night for British boxing, something we can all remember and, God-willing, I get the win and I’m someone that the fans will stay behind and we can take this journey even further”. It is tough. People have to be real about situations.
Hearn had a tough time deciding whether to finalize the fight because he was not quite sure if Joshua was ready for a world title bout.
“But this is my destiny”.
He forgot the “no” in front of it. There’s no fear with me, no fear.
“Winning the Olympics was the big experience for me”.
“The fights I’ve been in have been tough”. Someone who has tasted the life, understands the way to become champion, comes from a rough background.
“There’s no fear with me”, said Joshua. I know the danger of coming here to face a powerful puncher like Joshua.
“He said: “Cool, I’ll get it sorted”, and he has still got the message now”.
“Vitali was someone I thought of because he is retired, he has no interest in boxing, his brother is at that level and they’ve been there for a while; it is about what to expect and some advice about how to go about my business”. “You still have two hands, the same heart and same feet and that is the same with me”. You know when you’ve got someone hurt, and when it’s time to knock them out. So I’ve never learnt about the scoring system, no.
Martin, from Carson in California, will reportedly earn a guarantee of almost £3.5million ($5m), which could almost double if the fight does well on pay-per-view sales. Put the world title to one side, we’re both undefeated, both hungry and we’re bringing old-school boxing back.
