Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal: ‘Fans are right to abuse us’
The report states that United have already contacted the Portuguese’s representatives and that Van Gaal is on borrowed time.
United face Shrewsbury in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Monday amid growing fears that the squad has reached such a low ebb that they could be the victims of a giant-killing.
The club have missed out on a number of targets during Ed Woodward’s tenure as executive vice-chairman, and he may not be forgiven should Mourinho slip through his fingers.
Manchester United might not wait until summer to give Jose Mourinho Louis van Gaal’s job.
Woodward, and the Glazer family, the club’s owners, were prepared to leave Van Gaal in charge until the end of the season, but Thursday’s shock defeat to the Danish champions has increased the pressure on the United manager. It is always possible in football.
Questions about that led Van Gaal to reveal he can recall Wilson from his loan at Brighton, but the Dutch coach also implied that he will not do so – and his words have angered officials at the Championship club. “I don’t search for clubs, clubs search for me”.
Meanwhile, Michael Carrick has apologised to around 800 supporters who paid £71 apiece for a ticket to watch the match against Midtjylland and admitted the performance had not been good enough. I think Louis van Gaal is a fantastic manager.
However, it looks as though they’ve been handed a huge boost as the Daily Mail claim that the injury isn’t serious as scan results show no significant damage to the knee and the 25-year-old is set to return within days rather than weeks. “They are disappointed, like we are”, the Dutchman said when told what supporters had been singing.
“When you play with another team every week, with other players, it doesn’t help”. “When you are starting a game and your goalkeeper is No 14, you are not starting like usual I think”. “It is something that is not ideal but I can’t make any excuses”.
“The team probably will change for the Shrewsbury game, I’m sure”.
“We can’t perform like that and expect to win games”. “I can only really apologise for losing a game like that [against Midtjylland] and not rewarding them for their support”. It’s been a few years since we won a trophy. It is not going to be an easy game.
The Telegraph have a story about United’s (at some level) continued support of Van Gaal, despite the “mutinous fans”.
