American Idol Recap: Showcase #4, Judges Vote
Past winners Jordin Sparks (Season 6) and David Cook (Season 7) returned to perform, along with Chris Daughtry and Kellie Pickler (Season 5), Haley Reinhart (Season 10) and Constantine Maroulis (Season 4). Their kind words and advice could be the confidence booster that one individual needs to break out and become the last American Idol victor.
Finally, Olivia Rox won the night with her version of “Confident”, by Demi Lovato.
Next week, Cook will embark on his 2016 “Digital Vein Tour”, which will include a March 19 show at Oklahoma City’s Wormy Dog Saloon.
Keith Urban was quick to defend Blosil, explaining that his response to the song came not from the vocal improvement part way through, but because of the direction that began to show.
“It sounds like you have a lot of fans here and I think you’re deserving of those fans because you’re sort of a breath of fresh air”, he said. Shelbie Z.is a down-home country gal who likes her ATV and shootin’ guns and “mud-boggin'”, which I am 95 percent certain is a thing she just made up.
Idol judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. then deliberated which seven contestants should advance in the competition and which five artists should go home. Connick called it a “really great, great job” and said both Sparks and Harmon should release the song as singles – or a duet. But I nearly feel like it’s not in the sweet spot of her voice. I believe in the power of this one-time American juggernaut, and I’m not ready to accept that the only formidable contenders from last night were a guy who wears jeans that I can only get one leg into and a girl who has the last name “Rox”. Again, the judges say the performance is just fine, but they (and I) are longing for an emotional connection.
Dalton Rapattoni teamed up with Chris for a rocking performance of “Higher Ground”.
In the February 18 episode, once Blosil tackled duets and the tune “My Funny Valentine”, it was clear she was in her element. His duet on the Bee Gees’ “To Love Somebody” with the great Jordin Sparks was buttery. Lopez agreed the performance showcased Trent’s vocal ability and unique tone. Tonight the top 14 will reveal which contestants will continue on their journey and who’ll be sent home.
Jenn Blosil, a Utah native and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, advanced on to the Top 14 contestants during Thursday’s episode of “American Idol”.
Second-time Idol hopeful Adam Lasher sang Sam Sparro’s “Black & Gold”. Kory needed a big moment to keep him in the race, and this was it. If the Tennessee spirits and the magic in Kory’s blue eyes had anything to do with it, this performance should’ve been enough to keep him around.
